Today we’d like to introduce you to Beau Kue.
Hi Beau, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been detailing for about 10 years now. At first, it wasn’t my profession. I wanted to be a Mechanic as I went to school for it. I started out as a Lube Technician and worked my way up to Assistant Manager at a Lube Shop before I moved on to a dealership as a Service Runner for a few years so that I could work my way up to a Mechanic position. Things didn’t plan out as I wanted and I had a car accident that led me to change profession due to not being able to do any heavy lifting for a while.
I continued to work at some dealerships in an office setting but also tried my hand at detailing while I was assisting the service department. I got a chance to work with a body shop and I learned how to really hone my detailing skills. I continued to pursue detailing at several shops and that is where I learned how to vinyl wrap and get into clear bra installation. Over the years I developed my skills and learned a great deal of information about detailing and made many friends and mentors throughout the detailing industry.
It wasn’t until around 2016-2017 that I was seriously considering about branching off and starting my own detailing business. I would work my full-time job as a lead detailer at a customization shop and do side jobs at home during the evenings and on the weekends. Eventually, it grew into more people wanting to get their vehicles cleaned up to where I had to start declining because I was not able to keep up with doing side gigs.
I had a discussion with my wife about taking this seriously and leaving my full-time job. After several days of weighing my options, I finally decided to open my detail business. I did my homework on how to apply for a business license, getting insurance, getting my tax information, everything I needed to get myself going.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, it hasn’t. In the beginning, it was really difficult. There were times when I wouldn’t get a call and sometimes I wonder if I made the right decision. I thought about picking up a part time job so that I can at least bring in some sort of income. There were even some months where I had to even borrow some money from family in order to pay some bills.
Owning your own business has been an up and down rollercoaster. It was a long and tough road to get to where I am today but it has helped me get out of my comfort zone and grow
We’ve been impressed with Gloss Cities Detailing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Gloss Cities Detailing was founded in 2019 with the goal of providing the highest quality auto detailing and paint correction services in Isanti and also around the metro Twin Cities and surrounding areas.
We specialize in paint corrections, ceramic coatings, vinyl wraps, and PPF (paint protection film).
We believe in taking care of one’s vehicle is like caring for the appearance of oneself. Just like when choosing who will cut your hair, we believe you should be just as choosy when selecting whom will tend to your vehicle.
At Gloss Cities Detailing, we take responsibility of caring for your vehicle’s appearance, value and appeal seriously.
We use professional-grade products and tools from industry-leading sources and also continue to learn new processes and continuing education by also being members of the International Detailing Association.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I really wanted a Super Nintendo. I asked my parents for months and months. Christmas came around and when I opened the gift and saw the Super Nintendo I felt like the happiest boy that day.
