Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayowa Ojo.
Hi Mayowa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I dropped out of college (WIU) in 2014, moved to mn for a new beginning, went to Aveda in 2015 and graduated with an esthetician license. I worked at waxing the city. At the start of my career, quickly realized it wasn’t my passion and happened to pick up lashing while working there so I eventually quit the waxing job and started doing lashes out of my living room at the beginning of 2016 and then I did that for about nine months and then moved into my own salon suite in Roseville and then from there my business grew and I’ve had a couple of suites for a few years and then finally opened up my storefront at the end of 2019. I now have two employees that work for me. And I’ve been blessed to even work with a few celebrities. I now have a lash salon and also teach classes for aspiring lash artists.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been an easy road. I’ve had failed partnerships, encountered prejudice, and was only open for three months before I had to shut my brand new business down because of Covid.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a licensed aesthetician, and we specialize in lash extensions and teeth whitening and tooth gems! We are mostly known for our Lash sets and how voluminous they are, I am most proud about the vibe that we have created in the salon. when people come in they just feel like they are at peace and have a space to just come in and relax and kick their feet up…literally lol LASH HAUS MISSION STATEMENT.
Lash haus wants you to leave with an unforgettable experience. we care about the health of your natural lashes and we provide you with education and our best practices for responsible beauty lash enhancements. Lash Haus is dedicated to going the extra mile to make you feel happy, comfortable, and confident!
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice to anyone starting out specifically in my career is to don’t worry about anybody else’s Journey and to just focus on yours, give yourself some grace, always look for spaces where you can improve and never think that you are perfect and believe in yourself!
