Life & Work with Morgan Molitor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Molitor.

Hi Morgan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We are a husband and wife, interior residential remodeling design + build, and content creating team. For 10 years, we’ve been tearing houses apart and creating new dream spaces not only for their clients but for ourselves; starting off as a DIY home improvement blog in 2012, and moving into a full service interior residential design & remodeling company in 2015.

Jamie, my husband is a general contractor, carpenter, designer and co-founder of construction2style. Jamie went to college for carpentry in Fargo, ND with a goal to be a custom home builder. After graduating from college he came into the industry during the crash of the economy, but he didn’t let that get him down.

I, Morgan, am the wife to Jamie, and the designer & brand developer behind c2s. I graduated from college in Long Beach, CA with a fashion merchandising and marketing degree and have now taken that creativity and knowledge to use within their clients homes and website

How we got started … Jamie bought his first investment property to update and sell to make a profit on. During that time, I met Jamie and being blown away by his talents brought up this whole “blog” thing. We launched @construction2style and quickly started getting custom furniture and remodeling inquiries. During that time Jamie was also working for a commercial waterproofing company. After leads started coming in he took the jump and dove full time into running his own general contracting interior residential remodeling company. I then took the leap of faith to join forces full time with him in 2017 quitting my full time gig to get cruising alongside him. Jamie went to school for carpentry while I went to school for marketing and fashion merchandising. No idea we thought then that we’d be in this position and have this sort of company with an incredible team that we do today!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life as an entrepreneur and running your own small business is anything but smooth. ha! One minute you’re on cloud nine and the next you’re crashing hard. This is one of the biggest reasons why we started the DIY side of our business as well as hosting regular marketing workshops and online courses … we didn’t want others to go through what we had once been through. We want to be a resource share the wins and losses, actual costs of projects, how to’s from construction and design within your home to what social media marketing tools we use, how to increase revenue or how to build a website and more.

Some of the struggles we’ve went through and continue to go through is how to build better processes, systems in places, tools to use, team growth, scaling our business, working with different personalities from our team to our clients daily, cash flow, and more. We continue to fall down but we pick ourselves back up again and always learn from the setbacks.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We specialize in design + build interior residential remodeling from full homes to kitchens, basements, and baths. One of the things that we strive to do is to ensure no two projects are the same. We like color, bold patterns and textures and taking risks by bringing them together with our homes. Jamie is always pushing us to think outside the box whether that comes to new selections or to the carpentry details. We also share it all online, which most people in our industry don’t do. We’re an open book and share how much projects costs, links to selections to how to complete the project if they’re looking to DIY. And we are always challenging ourselves to create better content, more valuable, educational and inspiring.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Always be curious, don’t jump to assumptions, tell people what you want, ask questions to understand, and listen to understand, not to respond.
