Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Antony.
Hi Danielle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved capturing human emotion through the click and power of a lens. I simply love, love in all shapes it takes and have learned my passion lies in connecting with people and creatively bringing their stories to life. That’s why I started Dani Antony Photography, even if just part time, for now…
My purpose is to create an album of authentic moments as they happen organically. I started with photography as a side hobby to my main job in the corporate world. Previously at Target and now with Unilever, photography has become my creative outlet from my otherwise business and analytic day job. It brings me so much joy to capture the joy of others and know that I’m contributing a memory for them to have to look back on.
I grew up moving a lot, which had its pros and cons, but a HUGE pro was that it made me curious– I want to know people’s stories and help them paint important milestones that happen within their lives with my work.
I’ve since moved from Minneapolis and now live outside of Manhattan in Jersey City, but I still very much operate in Minnesota. I will always be drawn to the state that I called home the longest and one that has so many incredibly talented people, especially within the photography industry. I’ve learned from and been inspired by so many local Minneapolis photographers, notably Nicole Catonguay and Tippy Jordan amongst many others I follow closely. The community and support is amazing and I’m so proud to be a part of it even in a small way.
I’m only just getting started, but growing quickly in both cities and even some in between. I’m thrilled and so grateful that the passion project I set out to pursue is finally coming to fruition and I cannot wait to continue to watch this journey unfold.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A lot of the struggles of being a photographer come with just getting started– finding people who will trust you with your craft as you’re just starting out, landing consistent sessions with clients, and also learning all about the back end of your business and how you want to operate and show up as a brand.
I’ve thankfully had a tremendous amount of help from my very talented sister Kayle Antony (@kayleantonydesigns), who helped me define my brand guidelines, logo, created my website, and helped me find the look and feel for my business’ branding. As a previous brand manager, I knew a lot, but it’s much harder when you’re starting from scratch to define a brand, let alone when the brand is yourself.
I will admit, one of the more challenging parts I’ve had of creating my business is finding my own individual editing style amongst all of the other great artists I’m constantly surrounded by on social media. I do feel that I can finally define myself in a much more authentic way: a bit of romanticism, vintage edge, yet still combined with a down to earth organic touch. That being said, I’m learning every day, with every session, and with every client– I want my work to ebb and flow with the little moments because that’s when the magic happens in my opinion.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Dani Antony Photography?
You’ll hear me say this constantly, but little things matter and so do those little moments. MY job is to be there for all of them and choreograph a soundtrack to your big day, the family album, your senior year. I mainly focus on wedding/engagement, portraits, and editorial, but if I vibe with a client looking for something new, I’m in. I pride myself in working with a couple or whomever to make the package suitable for them, so they end up with exactly what they were looking for.
I’m most proud about the way that my brand has evolved even over the last year and a half. I’ve tried to keep it authentic, consistent, unique with its logo and icons, and a genuine reflection of me. In large part my brand was inspired by my sister (my otherwise biggest fan), who has pushed me in the best ways creatively. Her work is stunning and she helped me make my vision come to life, even though it was hard for me to articulate at times.
Again, overall my process at Dani Antony Photography is simple — to be there for all of the little moments and capture them. I will be your go-to-gal, third wheel, you name it. In whatever instance, I will work with my clients to get their vision right and will be their cheerleader each step of the way. My mission is to seamlessly bring to life the stories they have to tell, in a series of the little moments that come along the way. And I will always have some fun with it, otherwise said, dancing is highly encouraged and oftentimes prompted. Whatever the way I guide my clients through any type of session, I am on a mission to make the end result all authentically them.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I absolutely love the architecture Minneapolis/St Paul has to offer. There is also just such a variety of locations to choose from, studios, lakes, rural, urban, modern, vintage– it’s so great and a little overwhelming as an artist to choose from.
I definitely dislike the cold, hands down. Shooting in the snow, it can be done, I will do it, but my poor little fingers hate me every time I do.
