Rising Stars: Meet Lindsay Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Brown.

Hi Lindsay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Dance Esteem was founded in 2009 in Eden Prairie. I always wanted our studio to be a place where dancers can have fun, meet lifelong friends, feel empowered to try new things, and nourish their self-esteem. In 2018, we opened our second dance studio in Plymouth, which now has a beautiful tumbling space and fitness studio for dancers! Most recently, we opened Esteem Fit. This is a unique location offering fitness classes for dancers, child and adult fitness classes, and custom personal training programs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like many, we struggled at the beginning of the pandemic. Our dancers have such a strong bond with each other, it was really hard on them to not be able to meet in person. Not to mention, our competition season and recital had to be cancelled, which really are the top highlights of our year. In difficult times, I like to emphasize the power of positivity. Luckily, I have a staff who does the same. So with positivity leading the way, we managed to put smiles on our students’ faces. We held drive-through events and a virtual recital. It may not have been exactly what we envisioned in 2020, but it made our 2021 season so much more meaningful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Esteem’s priority is the emphasis on community over competition. I have always held the standards that our spaces need to feel safe. Our students should feel encouraged to do their best at the studio, and have fun while they’re doing it. Esteem dancers explore leadership and teamwork, push their physical limits, gain lifelong friendship, and learn about hard work and dedication. Our students have won many regional and national titles in different styles of dance including hip-hop, contemporary, jazz, tap and more! I especially love our boy’s breakdance program. It’s been fun to watch so many boys find a passion in dance they didn’t know they had!

How do you define success?
As far as the business is concerned, we have the best families who support us. We’ve grown through word of mouth because our families are involved in their students’ dance education! In teaching, we have an incredible staff that truly cares about their students. Their enthusiasm drives me every day. I love to see how they genuinely love to come in and work with the kids.
