Meet Frank Beck

Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Beck.

Hi Frank, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I was about 13, I discovered blacksmithing and took decided to learn as much as I could. So I watched tons of youtube videos and eventually took a class from North House Folk School in Grand Marais Minnesota. From there I continued on my own learning as well as learned from a few master bladesmiths. As of the last year and a half, I have been focusing more on ornamental ironwork and the processes of blacksmithing.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has been mainly a hobby for now, but I am looking to start a business once I am out of college.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a blacksmith/metalworker. So far I have specialized in forged knives, but I am looking to get into forged home accessories. Gates, railings, tables, trivets, lighting, etc. I am proud of the effort and quality of the work I produce which is also what I would say sets me apart. The ability to work with my customers to make sure that their product is unique to them is something that sets me apart as well.

What matters most to you? Why?
The customer service and quality of products I provide are what matters most to me. This is because I believe that as a maker, the community of the people I work with is very important, which is why I strive to have quality customer service. The quality of my products is important because I want my customers to have something that lasts a lifetime and can be passed down through the generations.
