Meet Kobenz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kobenz.

Hi Kobenz, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Around the height of the pandemic, I was finishing my last year of nursing school, when my ex Lexi Johnson moved in with me. I always knew she struggled with mental illness, however, it was severely exasperated during the lockdown. Unfortunately, she put me through a lot of very traumatic things during this period, which in turn led to me having to be hospitalized from the torment and trauma I endured with her. Long story short? I was put on meds and was so messed up that I couldn’t keep up with my coursework. As a means of therapy, I turned to music and that was the beginning of my new music career. I dropped out of school, started making music all day long (sometimes for days straight) and began trying to make a career out of the only thing that helped me to feel better.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road. Imagine telling your 60 something year old, boomer-conservative of a parent, that you were dropping out of your last year of college to become a rapper and live on your ex high school fling’s couch unemployed.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an alternative hip hop artist. I scream about my exes and mommy issues. I’m known by the term “goth rapper” which I f*cking hate btw. Anyways, I’m most proud that I was able to turn my music into a real career and not be just another stereotypical “SoundCloud rapper”. I’ve worked with quite a few big names so far and I have a pretty awesome fanbase so that rocks. Also, go stream BitePickle dropping 03/04/2022 it’ll be on all platforms and totally kicks ass!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Fake it till you mf make it. I’m the biggest bullshitter you’ll ever meet, and I used to get a lot of shit for it, but let me tell you my friend, if you want to make it in the entertainment industry you need to learn how to fluff yourself up.
