Hidden Gems: Meet Laura Wilkerson of Luna Massage and Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Wilkerson.

Hi Laura, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my practice to wellness back in 2014 when I was in school for physical therapy. It was within that time when I realized massage was the path I needed to be on even after my medical training and working with chiropractors and PTs locally and nationwide. I started LUNA in 2017 because I wanted to create a space of healing that was attainable for people in all walks of life and a safe space for people to be at peace. In 2017 I started with a handful of clients and honestly no long term goal. Today LUNA has a clientele base of over 1,500 people with multiple massage therapists.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Good things don’t come without tribulations ha! Unfortunately, our first location had major flooding in 2019 and was unsafe to conduct business so I had to quickly find a new location and we had a few temporary locations along the way until we found a home in our current location.

Then 2020 happened. We were hit hard with that like the rest of the world. We were temporarily shut down for 3 months. Within that time, we were in the epicenter of the George Floyd protests and uprisings. Our reopening from the lockdown was delayed due to the damage done in our neighborhood. However, there was no better place to be to heal a community that was hurting and provides a safe space.

We’ve been impressed with Luna Massage and Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
LUNA is a wellness practice that offers massage and bodywork for those that are dealing with physical dysfunctions as well as those just looking for stress relief.

We offer:

  • Swedish Massage
  • Deep Tissue Massage
  • Therapeutic Massage
  • Cupping therapy
  • Grastons technique therapy
  • CBD Massage
  • Moon Cycle Massage (for PMS)
  • Reiki Healing
  • Sound bowl therapy

We understand that healing happens on both a physical level and an emotional/energetic level so we offer services for both sides.

LUNA is also a humanitarian business. Every year we donate a percentage of our profits to a choosen non-profit both locally and internationally. The ripple effect of taking care of self while helping someone else is important to us.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
During the George Floyd protesting, our LUNA clientele decided that they wanted to give back in some way. They had asked for me to set up a gift of health giveaway, primarily focusing on our black community that has been triggered and hurt during the time of chaos in our city. In the end we gifted over 20 free massages for those who needed our safe space to just be and heal.

We also raised over $2,000 to give back to our city for rebuilding.

We also collaborate with other local wellness centers in the community providing sound baths and bodywork classes.

Pricing:

  • 60 minute massage $85
  • 90 minute massage $115
  • Cupping add on $15
  • CBD add on $15
  • 60 min Reiki/Sound bowl session $70
