Rising Stars: Meet Leah Carey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Carey.

Hi Leah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
For many years, I’ve struggled with my body image. In 2015, I reached my heaviest weight. It was hard for me to look in the mirror I couldn’t stand my reflection. I became depressed and lacked motivation. Shopping for clothing was painful and frustrating. I often wore oversized T-shirts and leggings to hide my figure. Eating excessively was my way of coping. The scale was getting closer to reading 300 pounds. I knew it was time for me to make a lifestyle change. I became conscious of what I was eating, and began to work out. I started to see favorable changes in my body.

Out of my desperation to change in August of 2015 I created Hungry To Be Fit. I started making small adjustments, I knew the way I saw myself needed to change. Unfortunately, I sat on many of my ideas for years. And I knew I wasn’t going to quit. In 2018, I hosted my first weight loss challenge. I was able to connect and build a community of women who were truly Hungry To Be Fit Women who were losing weight and feeling better about themselves.

In 2019, I worked hard on my weight loss goals and lost 30 pounds. That ignited my confidence and consistency. I participated in my first Pop up Shop In Downtown Minneapolis, and it was a success.

In August 2020, I purchased my first billboard in South Minneapolis. It promoted self love and it read “Love Your Body”. Since then it has been my tagline.

I have managed to keep off 45 pounds and have more to go. I want others to be inspired by my journey. Always know that all your dreams, goals, and desires are all attainable. We are on this mission collectively.

My struggle was the catalyst to me starting my business. Providing Grade “A” apparel for people of all sizes is very important to me. I want to reach people all over the world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Due to working a full time job, I have not been able to dedicate 100 percent to my business. My job funds my business. Hard work and consistency will get me to full time entrepreneurship. Having a consistent online presence is crucial. Engaging with my audience has been important. I have had many customers all over the Nation. Social media is very powerful. I have connected with many virtually. When I am able to work for myself 100 percent I will reach more people. I want to help change lives. My business is more than apparel. I have many other avenues we will go once I am able to become a full time business owner. We aim and promote healthiness mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically. They all go hand and hand to be successful.
