Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Vargas.
Hi Jasmine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started the Jasmine Maria blog in January 2015. I was talking to my now husband about how I was super depressed about working in customer service call centers and I needed to do something that made me happy. He knew that talking about beauty and getting into makeup was my passion. He was the one that actually encouraged me to pursue my blogging career full-time. So I quit my job and started to do it full-time. Not going to lie, it was rough having 1 income but after a year of doing it full-time, I landed my first paid job with Biore. After landing my first paid collaboration, I worked very hard on posting consistently on my blog and of course on Instagram/Facebook.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been a smooth road, lol. Having solely one income I didn’t know if this was ever going to take off and have an actual business out of it. I was considering going back to work at one point but I knew that’s not what I wanted. I kept pitching to brands or joining influencer networks where they have campaigns you need to apply for and pitch to the brand that way. And it truly worked. Of course, when you pitch to brands directly it can be discouraging when they tell you “no” or “sorry we don’t have the budget” but honestly it didn’t stop me from doing what I loved.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a full-time content creator and wedding makeup artist. I’m known for creating makeup looks, writing honest reviews on products that I do love, and also sharing products that I didn’t like. When I am not doing content creations I am helping other women feel beautiful on their wedding day. It’s honestly one of my favorite things about my work. I love creating these makeup looks that these brides want and their reaction is my favorite.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Being such a shy person and having a little bit of social anxiety, connecting with other content creators has definitely helped me put myself out there. I’ve connected and met so many amazing women that share the same passion, which is motivating. And we all need that when you are a content creator.
