Rising Stars: Meet the Pho Show team

Today we’d like to introduce you to Pho Show.

Can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We started our Instagram blog on February 8, 2018, in Minneapolis focusing on our favorite pastime, eating out, and exploring our neighborhood. “Dinning and Entertainment in Minnesota” was our tagline. We reviewed different American, ethnic, and fast foods as well as, parks, theaters, and museums. We also took our reviews on the road to nearby places like Chicago, Illinois, and far-off ones like Medellin, Colombia. In March 2020 certain world events lead us to change pho show to what it is today, a blog about food, entertainment, health, and lifestyle. A lot of our attention has been on cooking and health. In April 2021 we started our official online blog. We had a lot of difficulty with that, we felt like a fish out of water trying to navigate this unfamiliar platform, and to be honest, it’s still a struggle today but we’re managing. On May 27 we began a YouTube channel but didn’t produce any vlogs until November and have been active since. Recently we added Pinterest and are now on four different platforms. With time we have gained a small group of loyal followers and have gotten some positive attention, going somewhat viral on both YouTube and Instagram.

As things have been getting better worldwide with the health crisis we have tried to do more vlogging and blogging on the road about the best places to visit. We are currently in Panama but have plans of visiting Costa Rica and some other places before heading back to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Unfortunately, getting the right shots is more difficult than it looks online. You see a beautiful picture or a video but have no idea what it took to set up for that photo or how many people walked through or can be heard talking throughout the video. We had no idea how much lighting, a space to film (especially while quarantining at home), and having good filming equipment would affect us. 2021 was the worst year for us, far more so than 2020. Financial hardships and health problems posed an added burden to the aforementioned struggles. It was difficult to keep the blog going. We had plenty of breaks but always kept coming back because, in the end, it was something we were still passionate about and didn’t want to quit.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We blog/vlog about food, both cooking in and dining out. Review cheap and free entertainment and recreation. Cover lifestyle from hairstyle to DIY beauty and of course, health! Recently we’ve ventured into recipe-making and have come up with some interesting combinations. Most of our blogs center around the foods, herbs, and spices that have health benefits we’re not even aware of. We started two series on Instagram called Exotic fruit Monday and WILD n’ Panama, where we talk about exotic fruit we find and wild animals we encounter. We are the proudest of sharing our knowledge of health tips and our followers letting us know they want to try our recipes. I think what sets us apart is being able to persevere even when times have been extremely tough and not letting our lack our finances stop us from pursuing our dreams.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
We listen to a few apple podcasts: ¿Pero, Why not? and Two Feet Tall. We use apps like Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Grammarly, and Snapchat. A favorite book of ours is Fortune’s Flower by Mary Ellen Boyd, and she has a Biblical series about the days of the Judges. She also has a blog. Another blog I like is Stages 2 Sell MN for the décor tips.
