Exploring Life & Business with Kim Duffy and Rachel Miklya of Strength in Nutrition

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Duffy and Rachel Miklya.

Hi Kim and Rachel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
We met at a large level one trauma hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota as Registered Dietitians. We instantly had a connection and noticed we had many similarities and would call ourselves “twins.” Fast forward several years and the COVID pandemic was occurring throughout the entire world. Working in the hospital during this time was a grueling task. Prior to COVID, Rachel knew she wanted a different job as a dietitian, but didn’t know what that would look like. Enter Kim!

During COVID we both knew we wanted to change our focus from treatment to prevention, and Kim had the idea of starting a business together. We have similar opinions around different health and wellness practices and thought, why not try this out?

We started our business, Strength in Nutrition, in the last quarter of 2021. We offer nutrition coaching, individualized meal plans and personal training services.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Relatively speaking, the road has been fairly smooth. Obviously, there have been obstacles and challenges that have popped up along the way, however, we always have each other’s support. If there is something that is extremely mind-boggling we get to put together two brains instead of just one – that’s the best!

We’d say one of the main challenges now is marketing our business, and this is where we are spending a fair amount of time. We can’t wait until our days are fully filled with doing the things we truly love – helping others feel confident with themselves through nutrition and fitness.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are both Registered Dietitians and Certified Personal Trainers. Our services offered include nutrition coaching, individualized meal plans and personal training (1:1 and group settings). We believe in empowering individuals to make healthy lifestyle choices.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
There have been SO many lessons learned throughout this journey. One main lesson we have both learned is that you don’t need to have everything figured out to get started. We had a vision when we first started, and plans have changed multiple times over the course of several months. We’ve realized that sometimes we just need to try something to see if it will work. If it doesn’t, then we need to change it up!
