Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Wyatt.
Jeff, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Mile Monsters Inc. is a Non Profit that has volunteer riders who compete in crazy long distance endurance rides for charity. The main focus of our rides is to raise both money and awareness to fight Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy better known as DMD. This rare form of MD typically affects young boys. As a father, I was drawn to help fight this when a former coworker’s son was fighting it. I signed up to ride the Hoka Hey Motorcycle Challenge in 2018 for my very 1st event. The plan was to ride this one ride and get back to life as I had known it.
That just wasn’t to be. Instead, I finished that one Challenge in 5th place and was forever changed by the ride. See the Hoka Hey is 10,000+ miles of secondary roads that you navigate with turn by turn directions and paper maps. GPS and all other electronics are forbidden. To make it more challenging we have to sleep outdoors next our bikes.
Along this grueling route, I found myself and my new purpose in life. over the course of the next couple years, I rode other events and continued t0 raise Both money and awareness. During the 2020 Hoka hey I was Inspired by another rider named K-Solo to take it a step further and launch Mile Monsters Inc.
In 2021 I kicked it off and looked for rides to compete in and other riders to join me in the fight. A Friend and fellow Hoka Hey rider named Chris Hopper from TX joined the Monsters and did a ride for us that set a new world record. Hop rode his 2021 Harley 100,000 Miles in just 100 Days. This put Mile Monsters on the Map. Now we hit 2022 and another Hoka Hey Challenge which is scheduled to kick off June 26th.
This year I am proud to say that we have 18 riders competing for Mile Monsters Inc. We will be riding to raise funds for 3 Main kIds as well as a group of kids from around the world who come to America for the needed treatment.
We are not the Heroes people wanted, We are the Monsters they needed. The kids are the Heroes! We have a very simple motto. Help the kids LIVE THEIR BEST LIFE!. Its very simple and that’s where the money goes. To help these kids Live Their Best Life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I am a simple farm kid from St. Francis MN and the hurdles to kick off a Non Profit were a bit of a pain and a huge learning curve. Also what we do is inherently dangerous and comes with a cost. In 2018 a Rider and Friend Todd Moreland died competing in the Hoka Hey. Todd was also very involved with charity work. Along the way, there have been many close calls and some scary moments as well as encounters with wildlife and traffic. The risk is well worth it when we see the kids at the end of these rides and they know that there is a monster riding for them.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Mile Monsters are known for doing EPIC SHIT! We know that DMD is a Beast and to fight it we have to do what only seems like insanity to the average riders. There are no normal rides, no little spins around the neighborhood. We do challenges like riding from Coney Island NY to the Golden Gate Bridge in under 48 hours. We do rides starting from home and riding to all of the lower 48 states and back home in under 8 days. We ride 10,000 mile challenges in 10-12 days and never see an interstate. We ride 100,000 miles in 100 Days. We Do EPIC! We ride 4 others and we do it in Monster Style.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
We ride to raise money to help kids who never asked to be in the spot they are in. We ride to raise money to fight the disease. We ride to fight DMD. It is my hope that the future will bring a cure and there will be no more DMD. No more awesome kids fighting. No need to do what we do. That is my hope and we will continue to fight and push the limits of ourselves and our motorcycles until that day. People will always have big hearts and there will always be support for these kids that we call HEROES.
