Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Murray.
Hi Lindsay, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story begins in the classroom! I became a teacher 15 years ago; I teach 7th-grade middle school English-language arts. My husband and I got married and have three beautiful children. When my son was born, I began to realize that mothers are extremely isolated at first and wished there was a community to share stories of love, laughter, sadness, and inspiration for one another. I began Band of Mamas, my blog, on Mother’s day in 2018. My journey with writing began because I wanted another way to connect to women who have such wonderful stories. I started by interviewing one mother each month who was willing to share her story–whether it be hardship, grief, or joy. It has been such an incredible experience for me to learn from others and in turn, helps propel me to be so grateful each day for my life as a mother.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t know many women who can say that being a working mom, while also trying to begin your own business, while raising babies and being a wife has been “smooth”… With that said, I work extremely hard to keep my home efficient and organized, which, in turn, teaches my kids’ organization as well. We work as a team to manage a family of 5! One of the biggest challenges for me has been trying to find pockets or my day where I can work on growing my blog or writing, while also maintaining the importance of wife + mom first. It’s extremely difficult some days, blocking out my time so no one feels slighted. Additionally, some of the other struggles have been being consistent with writing. I find that when I take time off and get out of the groove, I don’t feel as successful or motivated to keep going. So, one of the most important things for me, has been building my “me time” into my schedule! I also know that a millennial challenge surrounds what “work” looks like, because it’s often on my phone. I don’t want to be glued to it, but there are times when I have to get something done, and my kids are trying to get my attention.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Band of Mamas is a blog that shares all things motherhood. From style, to inspiration, to advice, Band of Mamas strives to help every mother feel connected in some way. Recently the blog opened up an advice column and now receives stories from moms asking for advice on certain things. Some of the topics so far have included relationship struggles or transitioning your toddler from a crib to a bed. Additionally, I also interview mothers and share their story on the blog and feature them so that again, women can feel connected together and “band” with one another in this journey through motherhood! I think the thing that separates me from other mothers is that I strive to show how imperfect motherhood can be. What can be a struggle for me could be a breeze for another mom! I’m happy to share my successes but also relish in the losses– it’s what makes us all human! If there was one thing that I would want my readers to know about Band of Mamas, it’s that I am so very passionate about sharing anything related to being a mom– the good, the bad, and the ugly. I’m here for it all, because I’m doing it all everyday alongside every one of them!
What are your plans for the future?
I have a lot of plans for the future. In addition to continuing to build up the Band of Mamas platform, I am so looking forward to traveling with my kids! They are just reaching the age where we aren’t stuck in nap jail and I couldn’t be happier about it. Additionally, this summer I’ll be starting another side business called Tidy Mom. I have a secret love for cleaning, organizing, and making a home efficient & routine. I can’t wait to help other mamas feel that way, too!

Love your Band of Mamas blog post all about cell phones and kids. Great feature! I’m dealing with that challenge right now, so it’s very relevant! Look forward to connecting with you!
