Inspiring Conversations with Beth Rubin of Where it Blooms

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Rubin.

Hi Beth, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a mom, a business owner and a creative. My background includes a degree in Advertising and Studio Art from Bradley University and a career in marketing, event production and design.

Following college I worked for a financial company in Chicago as a desktop publisher. From there I landed a job at a real estate and property management firm where I continued to grow and develop and ultimately was promoted to marketing director. As a marketing director, I led a team of 120 real estate agents at five office locations; providing marketing and communication services.

After having my daughter and wanting to be closer to family, I relocated to my hometown Minneapolis where I created my own business called Where it Blooms, LLC and began working with small to mid-sized businesses, nonprofit organizations and professionals to provide custom marketing and design services.

In 2012 I joined Amy Zaroff Events + Design where I entered the world of event planning and production. My marketing and design skills in conjunction with my branding background created the perfect skill set for the events I produced; corporate and nonprofit events, editor previews, social events and brand launches. I was able to work with a wide variety of clients and had the ability to be not only creative but highly strategic and detailed with event execution.

In July 2020 during the Covid pandemic and the unknown future of events, I decided to return to my roots and pick up where I left off with Where it Blooms, LLC and made the decision to once again own my own business and return to my marketing roots!

Currently, I am working with a number of small business owners and non profit organizations. All of their marketing, consulting, strategic planning and development needs vary. This is great and I find myself enjoying the variety of work I’m doing and the impact it’s making to help them grow!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever a smooth road but I believe in going with your gut and ensuring that I always have a mix of creativity in the work I do. Since I use both sides of my brain I have the ability to tap in to the logistics and analytic side but also use the creative side. I think the hardest part of what I do is having to say no because I’m such a yes person.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
When I started this business years ago my goal was to work with small to mid-sized businesses and non profits to help them grow. Years later this is still the objective but some of the ways we go about it are now different. Social media has evolved, tools have changed and print has evolved to more electronic. Yet, having spent over eight years in event planning and production I can now offer that aspect to my clients in addition to the marketing, creative and strategic planning I do. I am most proud that I am nimble. I can provide a range of hands-on services and execute in a way that is affordable for my clients!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in gut. Doing what is right, being committed, ethical, honest and aligning with the right clients, partners and people that have similar goals in mind. Being a leader, business owner and having success means having a common respect and communicating in a way that allows others to see your vision and understand the end game.
