Today we’d like to introduce you to Katelyn Moon.
Hi Katelyn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In January of 2021, it had been 3 years since I got back into reading regularly. One day I decided to start an Instagram dedicated to books, and @bookclubwithkatelyn was born. What I didn’t realize at the time, was that there was this entire corner of the internet that also had bookstagram accounts. I quickly became friends with a handful of people. Never in a million years did I expect to be where I am today – with 12k people caring about my opinions on books and book recommendations.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is perfect so there were definitely challenges along the way. Social media amplifies comparisons to others, since everyone shows only the best part of their life. In the beginning, I was intimidated by the larger accounts. The pressure to grow your following, to get more likes, to get more shares, etc, etc. Reminding myself why I started – the love of reading – is what helps ground me. Focusing on this helps drown out any pressure to get more followers.
I read a lot of books on my kindle from the library so my book pictures often show my kindle. For the longest time, I wasn’t utilizing tools to make those pictures look better to paste the cover on my kindle to get a color cover. Color pictures resonate more than just showing the black and white cover on my kindle.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m in Supply Chain by day & Instagram creator by night. On my bookstagram, I’m known for book pictures with bloopers of my puppy, funny & relatable reels, and fiercely passionate reviews. I’m most proud of how far I’ve come and how much my content has improved.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Going to the library multiple times a week in the summer to come home with a stack of books!
