Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Blanchard.
Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got my first guitar about 3 and a half years ago. Started playing country music because that’s what I was into at the time. The following summer I had a lot of time to myself because I was living alone in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and working on construction. I’d practice playing and singing every night until I fell asleep. Eventually, I was asked to play bonfires and such. One thing lead to another and I got into the bar scene. In my first year (2021), I played 225 shows, which I would have to guess is unrivaled by anyone who just picked up a guitar. Since October 2021, I’ve been going to Nashville every month to write, record, and sing. I just tracked my first project with some of the best musicians in the world. These are guys that have been on dozens and dozens of #1 songs. The first single from that session will be out later this year. My band is playing at some bigger stuff this summer like Porterfield Country Music Festival and the Hodag.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Honestly, I’ve been pretty fortunate. I’d hate to say lucky, because I believe that you create your own luck, through consistent hard (smart) work. The biggest struggle for me has been time management and learning the ropes of the music industry. Being so young and so new to the music world, it has taken some good advice and some adjustments on my part. I’m chasing a lot of different things right now and still trying to make time for myself. I’ve had a tremendous amount of help along the way. I think that is due to my likability and the fact that I can establish and maintain good working relationships. I would be nothing without the help and support that I’ve received.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a songwriter. I play a lot of solo shows at bars, festivals and weddings. This summer I play with my band a lot and also host a series at the Anduzzi’s on Holmgren Way right by the historic Lambeau Field where every Tuesday I will have a new musical guest with me. These will be instrumentalists and other artists/songwriters. I’m most proud of the fact that I have stayed true to what I feel is authentic throughout this whole process of pushing towards a more commercial audience. What sets me apart? Ah, that’s kind of a difficult question for me because I kind of feel like music isn’t really a competition. But everybody is different. I mean, I’m funny in a sarcastic way. I’m from a small town but I’m not super redneck. I’m really athletic and was always good at pretty much whatever I do. I work really hard. I think that I’m willing to grind in ways that a lot of people aren’t. I mean sleeping in crummy hotels or on airport floors, staying up all night to finish a project or a song. I’m very thankful for the opportunities I’ve had and the relationships I’ve built along the way. I like to laugh and have a good time. I love ’90s country and there will be pieces of that in everything I do, while still pushing for radio play.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Be yourself. Surround yourself with people that know the industry and have been in your shoes. You’ll get a lot of sub-par advice. Just smile and say thanks. Stay true to your vision but also be open to possibilities.
