Check Out Kayla Brugger’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Brugger.

Hi Kayla, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I began my health and fitness journey as a child by attending classes with my mom at our local Life Time health club. I was a competitive athlete throughout high school and college, performing in gymnastics and cheerleading. I completed my 200-hour Yoga Training through LifePower Yoga and have since taught at Life Time, Fit Haus, and Zesa. In 2015, I founded KB Sculpt, where I taught SUP Yoga and Pilates, and then pursued a deeper education in PEAK Pilates at Life Time Athletics – St. Louis Park, where I taught for 5 years. Being Level 3 Pilates Certified has allowed me to gain experience teaching all different types of bodies. My love for Pilates has continued to expand, especially after the birth of our first child Bobbi Rose. After becoming a mom to Bobbi, I decided it was time to open my studio. PILATESBODY by Kayla was founded in August 2020, and I now happily train 1-on-1 with clients, focusing on low impact and functional fitness, emphasizing core and complete body control. When I found out I was pregnant with my Son Nash, I felt compelled to share how Pilates can help other moms through their prenatal and postpartum journeys. It is now my passion to educate the benefits of prenatal and postpartum Pilates.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Entrepreneurship is always bumpy, and you’re learning as you go! Getting started during a pandemic was a challenge in itself. Trying to navigate in-person training sessions with virtual clients and classes was the start of learning to be fluid and flexible; nothing will ever go as planned. This also meant getting creative with growth. A business thrives on human interaction growth means adapting to the online space for those who prefer working out at home. The biggest challenge with tapping into online fitness is gaining the trust of those you’ve never met. This is our biggest struggle and something we’re still navigating today! However, we are thrilled to see more clients in person again!
Being a solopreneur involves much trial and error and trusting your gut. Taking risks alone and the fear of failure is very scary! Investing everything in my business has been the biggest struggle along the way!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a comprehensive Pilates instructor and have been teaching and guiding clients to understand better their body and how it is designed to move from the core for over 7 years. I specialize in the mat and reformer Pilates, emphasizing prenatal and postpartum rehab. I am most known for my ability to use Pilates to strengthen, lengthen and provide an adequate challenge for my clients, leaving you feeling accomplished and confident.

I am most proud of how PILATESBODY by Kayla started. My daughter was 4 months old, born during a pandemic shut down, and I was a new mom and now jobless. I had always thought about opening my studio but loved my previous work, so I did not feel compelled to start something independently until I had my daughter. It was the best decision I ever made and allowed me to be a mom first truly but also still share my passion with the world. My business and studio are unique. I operate out of my home. It’s just me, and I have no employees or other instructors. It’s very intimate. What you see is what you get. I think of my clients like family and nurture the relationship as such!

Any big plans?
I will be adding additional instructors in the coming year and offering a wider variety of classes and challenges on the app. I also have plans to expand my online courses that will offer additional prenatal and postpartum Pilates courses! My App PILATESBODY on Demand just turned 1, and I am super excited for the platform’s future. I am also offering complimentary Poolside Pilates classes throughout the summers! It’s a great way to create community, get outside and enjoy MN summers while doing a fun yet relaxing workout.

Pricing:

  • Private Pilates Training $89
  • 8 Week Online Core Challenge $99
