Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott and Karen Bergman. They share their story with us below:
WillowStone Kitchens & Floors is truly a labor of love for Scott & Karen Bergman. The local remodeling company was born out of a necessity to find a balance that would work for their growing family. Scott was a commercial construction project manager for about 15 years, and Karen worked in various office settings before deciding to stay home to raise their 3 boys. They found themselves going in different directions with Karen running around with the boys’ activities and Scott at work more than at home. A turning point came around 2013 when layoffs hit Scott’s work, and the boys were at an age where Karen was considering full-time work again. The kids were growing up too fast, and quality time with them was scarce. WillowStone Kitchens & Floors was the brainchild of much soul searching and analyzing what they wanted from life. Scott’s construction background and Karen’s office experience and education gave them the skills to make starting a new business the right choice.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
WillowStone Kitchens & Floors started with determination to grow into a company that was different than other construction companies. With three growing boys, the risk was high, but we had faith in our skills. We registered our name and created a website. We took on small jobs to get our name out there, and it took a few years to get our name circulating throughout the community. Our goal was to build a great reputation for quality and exceptional service to our clients. We feel we are making that a goal a reality.

WillowStone Kitchens & Floors is a full-service interior remodeling company based out of Brooklyn Park, MN. We are a family-owned business that strives to exceed client expectations by making all our projects fluid with our client’s visions. We pride ourselves on quality workmanship and surround ourselves with a team that ensures that the work is done to the highest level possible. Remodeling is a form of art where not everything you are working with is a perfect environment, so it is important to be able to think outside the box when non-textbook challenges arise. That is where we thrive. Between collaborating ideas with Karen and the team and Scott’s skills in implementing those ideas, we can problem-solve through those challenges to make our clients’ homes work better for them. We love what we do and enjoy the relationships we have made through this venture.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Knowledge and the subsequent quest for knowledge is the most important quality in owning and running a remodeling business or any business for that matter. Karen uses her design skills to create a space that is both functional and beautiful while Scott has an impressively deep well of knowledge on many subjects and loves building and fixing just about anything. Together they make a great team and love helping people achieve their home renovation dreams.
