Rising Stars: Meet Chris Gibbs CG Photography of Cambridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Gibbs CG Photography.

Hi Chris Gibbs; we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Chris Gibbs. I am a photographer living with my family in Cambridge, Minnesota. My outdoor experiences and previous home in northern Minnesota inspired me to take my passion for photography to a professional level. For 20 years, my passion for adventure and the outdoors has provided me with an inspiring subject matter. It has taken me to places seldom seen by others, resulting in breathtaking images. My travels and assignments have taken me to the warm waters of the Caribbean, the deep snow of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, the majestic mountains of the west, and the negative temperatures of northern Minnesota and Canada. In 2017 I was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer. In addition to cancer, I was also diagnosed with a hereditary condition called Lynch Syndrome, a genetic predisposition or genetic susceptibility to getting cancer. A cancer diagnosis brings on a landslide of emotions, anxieties, and physical hurdles to which only one dealing with this horrible disease can relate. Everyone manages it differently, but we all have the same goal: fight and win. One of the things I learned that helped me get through some of the toughest moments of my life was to BREATHE. Take deep breaths when things are at their worst. Focus on each breath, knowing each one is helping you beat whatever is trying to take them away from you. As a photographer, I wanted to share my wisdom through images. So I created the BREATHE collection. A collection of inspiring images that will hopefully remind you to BREATHE. Enjoy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am pretty sure few people experience a completely smooth road in life. Whether it be an illness, relationship, job, or anything that brings negativity into your life, know you are not alone. BREATHE.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I see almost everything as the possibility of being a photograph. Even without the camera, I continually see images in everyday life. Sometimes I chalk it up as a memory, or I may come back and revisit that moment with a camera.
