Check Out Susanna Mariette’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Susanna Mariette.

Hi Susanna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started thinking about photography when I was a senior in high school. Everyone is always asking what you will do after you graduate. I hadn’t thought about it. I loved taking pictures at the time and decided to go to school for it. I truthfully never really thought about taking pictures of people. I wanted to photograph landscape or nature photography. In college, one of my professors told me that I had an eye for taking pictures of people that I thought about. I started off taking pictures of family and friends. My first wedding was crazy. Someone I had graduated high school with decided to contact me a week before her wedding and ask if I would photograph it. I said yes. I had never shot a wedding before, so of course, I went and googled how to shoot a wedding and asked any of my photography friends I knew. I also went out and bought a brand-new camera and found somewhere to rent a flash. I was at that wedding all day, it was stressful, and my feet hurt. I thought my pictures looked amazing, and so did the bride; of course, they probably weren’t the best. I fell in love with weddings after that. I love being there for someone’s special day, seeing all the little moments, and capturing everything. I also love photographing seniors in high school. I love listening to them tell me what they want to do with their lives and where they are going to school. What dreams do they have? I have been shooting photography on and off for about 15 years. I married my husband, brought home a dog, and had 4 beautiful children in those years. I stay home with my children now and run my photography business on the side. I also try to take as many photography courses as I can. I love learning, and I believe you should never stop learning something you love.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
Not a smooth road. I have found it hard to get my name out to the public. In the beginning, you are doing a lot of things for free. I also did a lot of learning on my own. Even though I went to college, they didn’t teach me everything I felt I needed to know.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer, and I capture people’s memories and moments. I specialize in weddings, engagements, high school seniors, families, and boudoirs. I am proud of how much learning and growing I have done in recent years. Something that sets me apart from others is that I’m not afraid to get dirty or go the extra mile. Suppose you want me to hike up a mountain, no problem. I can do that if you want me to get into the water. I love adventure, and I love people who want to go on an adventure to get amazing pictures.

What does success mean to you?
Success for me is working at a job that I love and doesn’t feel like work.
