Inspiring Conversations with David Meyer of Meyer Property Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Meyer.

Hi David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started as an investor with my first home in Richfield in the late 1980’s early 1990s. Just a simple house hack with 2-3 roommates at a time. It allowed me to live for free for a few years. After getting married, my wife and I started investing in SF homes as rentals in the early 2000s. We had decent success and worked our way up to where we are now with a couple of apartment buildings (28 doors total) and one SF next to the University of MN-Duluth campus. Having spent 28 years in education as a teacher coach and school leader (my last 12), I was looking for a second career where I could continue to use my educational background and skills. With the investment background, Real Estate was just a perfect fit. I have been an agent with RE/MAX Advantage Plus and the MN Real Estate Team since October of 2016 and have a small team of my own known as the Meyer Property Group. My daughter, Madalynn Brendon, works closely with me and handles all our online activity. She is a great resource and has been instrumental in our team’s growth.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Getting connected with Eric Malmberg (RE/MAX Adv. Plus) and Ryan O’Neill (The MN Real Estate Team) was the best thing I could have done. The organization provides a fantastic level of support and resources. Like any other business, getting used to all the new software platforms and systems was a little tough. The support and training have just been tremendous, and I would not have been able to reach the Top Producer level without it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Meyer Property Group. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
The Meyer Property Group is a small team of agents within RE/MAX Advantage Plus and The MN Real Estate Team. The larger brokerage motto is “if you like us and trust us; you’ll want to work with us.” The MPG Team motto is we are “Happy To Help Realtors.” We pride ourselves on educating the client on market conditions, what works to get deals done, and making the home buying, selling, and investing process fun. It’s a big deal to purchase real estate, so we do our best to remove the stress from the process. We work with all kinds of buyers, sellers, and investors.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
The best self-help book ever created is the Holy Bible, and I’m not perfect by any means; however, I do my best to follow the teachings of my Catholic faith. Being part of The MN Real Estate Team, I tune in to and have had the pleasure of co-hosting the MN Real Estate Show. It’s a great source of information for our local Twin Cities market. On a professional level, the Bigger Pockets Podcast is well worth checking out for any real estate investor.
