Hi Dawn, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Mine is a story of women finding their place in the world. I am a visionary woman who gathers like-hearted women together to create a new world. But like many of us, my life did not start with such clarity and purpose. Raised by a loving grandmother who took me in when my too-young mother gave birth to me and left because she didn’t know how to care for me, I felt abandoned and confused throughout girlhood. The lack of any contact with my mother planted the seeds of unworthiness and self-doubt. I thrived yet had little self-worth. My hunger to uncover the secret of women’s self-empowerment and self-love filled my days and led me to my life’s purpose. I discovered that the pain of childhood or young adulthood could bring each of us fully into our power, yet I did not know that for many years. This is true for many. My quest to unlock the door to self-love, self-empowerment, and service to humanity made me the woman I am today. As I began to understand the heart of women—and the struggles that continue for us to this day, I healed, learned, and shared what I learned with thousands of women.
Thirty-seven years ago, I became a women’s self-empowerment coach and wrote: “Venerable Women: Transform Ourselves, Transform the World.” I have spoken to groups of women over 1,000 times, became a teacher, radio and podcast host, author, and TEDx speaker, and then in 2021, co-founded New World Women. New World Women is an international women’s self-empowerment sisterhood that teaches, inspires, and connects women while providing a path to prosperity and personal freedom. Holding to the concept that “when women do better, so does everyone around them,” New World Women provides support and a shortcut to healing the pain that patriarchy has caused humanity. This is a new day with fresh possibilities. Every morning I awaken, I use my gifts to serve so more people can live in harmony, abundance, joy, and connection. These are not just pretty words but the fulfillment of what humanity can be at its highest and best expression. If ever there was a time for all of us to come together as whole, healthy, and loving humans, this is it. I’m here for it.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Like many of us who choose a service life, my road was sometimes bumpy! For example, uncovering the key to turning my life purpose to increase women’s self-empowerment into a viable business was sometimes challenging.
What shall I name what I do? What training do I need? What kind of support would help me make a success of my business? These were some of the basic questions I needed to answer and then take action on. I made errors along the way, such as finding the right website creator who understood my vision and did not cost me a fortune!
Another challenge along the path to success was hearing people say, “That will never work,” or “Who would pay you to do that?” Even though I knew in my heart what I wanted to do and held the spiritual vision for it, it was sometimes demoralizing to hear comments that shook my confidence. Thank goodness I am tenacious and knew that giving up was not an option! My calling to support women’s self-empowerment was deep in my soul, and I knew I’d figure it out, which I did.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Some golden rules for finding a mentor are to find someone you trust, who has the experience to help you with your specific aspirations and goals, and who resonates with you. Networking follows the same golden rules trust, experience, and alignment are essential to find and interact with those who will further your vision.
Regarding my networking, it has worked for me to become clear on whom I want to serve and stay in my lane! Clarity and alignment are key! Many times, we think that any and every networking opportunity is a good one. You may connect with someone at a more general networking gathering, yet you will make many more meaningful connections with those you wish to serve.
For example, I remember attending Chamber of Commerce meetings and other business-centered gatherings. Though I gained some knowledge and made occasional connections, attending networking events that specifically served the women I wanted to work with was much better. This realization made a huge difference and enabled me to build my powerful network over the years.
