Today we’d like to introduce you to The Haug Family.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We love community and family so our custom metal sign business uses our family talents so that we can share them with our community. We don’t sell metal signs – we create custom quality, unique signs for businesses and personalized heirlooms for families. My son, “Sir Metalman”, was a welder by education and trade, my husband and I are engineers with a history of custom machines. We are a creative bunch and the pandemic offered a time to reflect on how best to spend our time. So we invested in special equipment and got the word out that we are a community local business that communicates to the client to give them their vision to brand their company or create that special permanent piece that will become a hallmark piece in their family for the meaning it carries.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
All good businesses should change to improve as they grow. Growing pains, not necessarily painful, constantly come up and should be addressed to better serve our customers. We always look back on jobs and discuss if something could be done better or more efficiently next time. We continue to purchase new equipment as we offer new sign designs such as bending, LED, and multiple metal panel offsets. We continually address processes that could be more efficient, but that only shows itself as we work through the systems in place. We strive for the best customer experience and pride ourselves that the customer will talk to a person and never a bot – technology has its place but we are in the people business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Our business is a creative business endeavor. Most of our work is custom. The customer calls and says – I want a unique branding sign for my new business or someone will call to discuss a permanent memorial for a family member or a discussion for unique family piece that ties in their hobby, farm, home or passion. Each job we do is unique and very special to our customer and to us. We work with the creative vision of what the client wants, adding in our technical knowledge of creative design that works with a metal medium. We love to push boundaries by adding unique colors in patina and powder coating or adding lighting to highlight the piece or unique metal panel offsets and welded frames for 3D perspective. So a great piece has a need for both the technical and artistic.
Any big plans?
We love challenges. We will continue to offer new design elements to our pieces so that we can offer more for our customers. We will continue to evolve and work within our community and expanded area. We always support the businesses that work with us because we realize we are part of a local village of people trying to bring their passion to a business, and we always support others’ dreams.
