Meet Rebecca Bell of rb LEGAL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Bell.

Rebecca, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started out in the hospitality industry, and now, as a lawyer, I am still taking care of people. I used to be embarrassed that I wasn’t one of those “tough” lawyers. Instead, I preferred looking to prevent problems and make people feel better when they left our office. My focus is on Estate Planning, Probate/Trust Administration, and Small Business.

Law is a second career for me. I think that it gives me understanding and practicality.

I don’t think the law or lawyers should be intimidating, I want people to understand that we honor the trust they give us as we talk about very personal things.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have never worked for a law firm other than my own. When I first started, I was a single mom and worked from home. I had to work hard to support us. Law was never a “hobby” for me. When you start a business, you do everything: IT, marketing, accounting, paperwork, research, you name it. It made me a better business owner to have to struggle. My cell phone was my business number, I learned not to answer calls at the grocery store! This was 15 years ago, so working from home wasn’t normal. I got tired of keeping the dogs quiet and the house clean for clients. I moved into a single office in another law firm, and hired an assistant that only wanted to work part-time. I never dreamed that almost 15 years later, I have a team of 4 attorneys and two amazing staff members.

We’ve been impressed with rb LEGAL, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a woman-owned, caring law firm. We listen to our clients and get to know them, earn their trust. Only then, do we draft estate planning documents that give them peace of mind. Only then, do we draft probate documents that help move people forward in a time of confusion and sorrow. Only then, do we draft business agreements to help them succeed with their goals. We even draft documents to protect pets, from birds to dogs to horses. Our philosophy is “Listen First. Solve Second. Care Always. (TM)”

We are known for our client’s service. We have won many awards including “Best Lawyer/Law Firm” awards for multiple years, in multiple communities and the Reisman Award for Excellence in Client Service from an Clio, an international legal group.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the Twin Cities! I have lived in both Minneapolis and St, Paul. Each has different personalities. Both are fun! There is so much activity from family-friendly, whether embracing, day time, night time. The best thing is there is community pride.

What I like least, is the common Minnesota complaint–road construction, even though I appreciate a strong infrastructure!
