Today we’d like to introduce you to Hilda Ortiz Vega.
Hi Hilda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi, thank you for this opportunity. I’ve always been into beauty since I was a kid. I would often put on my mother’s makeup and watch makeup YouTube videos. I have a passion for beauty. September of 2018, I enrolled for cosmetology at empire beauty school, but it didn’t feel right because I wasn’t into hair. February 2019 I enrolled for esthetician at Aveda Institute. I knew it was for me because it felt comfortable, my instructor, my classmates. I left April 2019 because of personal issues. I had to continue because i knew I couldn’t just give up, it didn’t feel right. July 2019 I ordered my equipment, and supplies. My family were very excited for me to begin my journey. I started to lash clients in my living room. 2 months of lashing I was getting fully booked, and I went back to Aveda Institute to finish my esthetician program. January of 2020, I signed my lease to Sola Salons and I graduated from Aveda Institute. I was at sola salons for 2 years. August 2021, I moved to Apsara Beauty Salon located in Burnsville, I loved working with these talented artists. I highly recommend going there for services if you’re around the area! December of 2021, I had an amazing opportunity to have my own salon. The next month, I signed my lease— MN Beauty Studios LLC. I wouldn’t have done it without my family, my partner, and to all the amazing support I’ve been receiving. MN Beauty Studios LLC has space for independent artists located at Inver Grove Heights.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I have my family, I have 4 kids. Time managing was one of my biggest struggles, trying to find time for myself, my family, work, & working behind the scenes. Also opening a salon has not been easy. Lots of learning, mistakes, and self-doubt.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Salon Owner & Beauty Artist. I Specialize in Lash Extensions, Brows, & Tiny Tattoos. I’ve been doing lash extensions since 2019, Brows 2021, & I recently took a training for Tiny Tattoos 2022. I offer lash trainings, and lash supplies as well. I took a nail course 2021. I’m also in the process of real estate courses and majoring in business spring of 2023. I’m continuing to grow and explore.
How do you think about luck?
I believe if something bad or all the no’s were to happen, it was not meant to be. I do believe with god and the hard work I’ve been putting in is what got me to where I’m at now.
