Today we’d like to introduce you to Marina Hayes.
Hi Marina, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I knew when I was about 14 years old I wanted to go to hair school. It was always in the back of my mind all through high school and in my junior year,I decided I was just going to go for it. I went to The Aveda institute for Cosmetology and it was the best decision I could have ever made. I have worked at 3 different salons in my career so far and have built up my business specializing in color & extensions. I love all things beauty industry-related and can’t wait for all the years to come!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely has not been completely smooth. Starting my career during covid was really difficult and gave me lots of roadblocks. I definitely feel like it pushed me to work harder though and showed me nothing can stop me from growing in the industry.
As you know, we’re big fans of Marina Hayes Artistry. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is located at District On 50th in Edina, MN. I’m a color and hand-tied extension specialist. I continue my education constantly to keep up with the newest trends and looks for my clients. I look forward every day to going into the salon and getting to hang out with my clients while I make them feel their best. It truly makes my day knowing I get to help others feel good about themselves. I love getting to know my clients and they all truly feel like friends to me. I love doing any blonding service, balayages, rich brunettes, literally any big color transformation is my jam. My goal is to give you a color that has such a good grow out it still looks amazing 6 months later. I truly believe extensions are life-changing and I’m hoping to continue to grow my extension clientele in 2023. I take pride in knowing I will always give my best to my clients and I am extremely passionate about growing in the industry.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think from when I started In the industry, so much has already changed and will keep changing at a fast pace. The way salons are run has definitely changed for the better. Social media seems to be the way to grow your clientele now and any stylist can grow a business from the ground up using instagram. I think education will gear to more online instead of in person and stylists will have their own business vs working under owners at commission.
