Meet Brenna Keeler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenna Keeler.

Hi Brenna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I played collegiate soccer at Bemidji State University and soccer has always been a big piece of my life. I was working in Women’s Professional Hockey when Minnesota Aurora FC was announced and knew if there was an open opportunity to be a part of it, I would jump on it. I began my first day of work as Communications Coordinator at our Kit Reveal party at the Mall of America in April. It was an event full of fans and excitement and I knew I was in the right place doing what I loved, creating content. After an incredible season, I was offered a Full-Time Position as Marketing and Communications Coordinator which is my current role.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I graduated from College in the spring of 2020, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. I was unsure how I would get a job in sports when the whole world was on pause, sports were at a halt, and my diploma would be sent in the mail with no graduation ceremony. I was applying for roles that were open just because it was something to get my foot in the door, until I found an internship in my field with the Minnesota Whitecaps. While interviewing for this role, my father unexpectedly passed away. Now on top of a pandemic, there was a whole new roadblock in my way. I continued my growth with the Whitecaps which turned into a Full-Time role that prepared me for the fast-paced environment of working in sports. Eventually, I found my footing in the industry and once the Aurora position opened up, I felt confident that despite the obstacles I had to overcome to get here, I made it right where I should be.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For Minnesota Aurora FC, I create, edit, post, and monitor the content we push out on social media. I make reels, TikToks, take photos and videos, help with graphics, and write copy. It’s one of those jobs that feels more like a hobby than work, and that’s exactly why I love it. I get to be creative all while telling the story of this team and creating content through ‘firsts’ and historical moments. I am most known as the Socials Admin, which is a bigger task than most think. If we win, I get to celebrate with the fans. If we lose, well, I get the butt-end of hate messages. I’m most proud that the content I make is feel-good and reaches thousands of people in our community and around the world. I am grateful that I am the one who gets to help tell this story.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
This question is so tough because I am an open book. I’ll tell you anything about me if you ask. Something I enjoy is shoes, specifically having shoes that match the outfit and event/game i’m going to. I think I have three or four pairs of shoes that are teal specifically for Aurora Matches.
