Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa and Aaron Marsh.
Hi Alyssa and Aaron, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Birch Sauna is a mobile sauna experience that was launched in the Brainerd Lakes Area this year by Aaron and Alyssa Marsh.
We started by working with a local sauna maker that has been making beautifully handcrafted cedar barrel saunas for over 30 years, with the skill of being a cooperage passed down from his father.
Once the sauna was complete, we had it placed onto its wheels so it can bring heat and relaxation anywhere!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We originally planned to launch with two saunas but the demand became overwhelming for the cooperage that built our sauna. While we were a touch discouraged, it has allowed us to see what works and what our renters are looking for from us.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Birch Sauna is a Nordic traveling barrel sauna offering a sauna experience while channeling traditional vibes around roots, traditions and gatherings brought to your home, cabin, or business. Aaron and I decided we wanted a business that encouraged people to come together in a way that left them or the gathering they were at feeling better, energized, and happy! At the time of conception, the mobile sauna movement was still not really well known so we were excited to bring this to our community. We just recently launched the business with one barrel; with plans to add a second rental later this year. We have loved so much hearing how the sauna has added value to our renter’s lives.
The name comes from our family’s love of the birch tree. Not only is it a very common tree in this area but also often grows in clumps (a symbol of the family). It has depth (peel away its layers and you get a colorful display below) and it is resilient yet graceful. In the landscape, birch woodlands have a gentle presence – they are among the most resilient trees, bending with the strongest gales and flexing – but rarely breaking. Common sauna practices are often used to help us understand that the adverse does not need to hold us back. You can handle this heat and you can handle this cold.
At Birch Sauna, we aim to provide relaxation, and connection to nature, to others, and to self. A feeling that you can bend but you won’t break. We hope you leave rejuvenated; filled with new connections, stories, warm hearts – and bodies!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
The mobile sauna business is becoming huge.
I think I see a new business pop up almost every week. It’s fabulous to see how fast it’s growing and becoming a ‘thing’. Who knows what the future holds but for now, we are excited to be a part of this growing sauna community.
