Conversations with Patty Schumacher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patty Schumacher.

Hi Patty, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
From a young age, my creativity was never really given an opportunity to grow. It was always in me like a blank canvas craving to be painted. I just did not share any common biological commonalities with my parents or my siblings. It was not until my early adult years that I started to embrace my creative authentic self. I trusted my instincts, grabbed some art materials, and started to teach myself how to paint. I followed other artists, advanced my painting skills, and over time I started to become a more confident and experienced artist.

Painting brings me to a place where it is safe to fully reside and just be me. To breathe, smile, and cultivate joy in my life. It’s when I am creating that my mind has no room for anything else but the painting in front of me. Ideas flow, time disappears, and I am absorbed at the moment. Finishing a painting sparks pleasure in me gives meaning to me, and motivates me.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I had to overcome a lot of fear.

Fear of failure, fear of trusting my inner guidance. The self-doubt of my own ability, own knowledge, self-esteem, and acceptance from others. You need to have courage, to be brave and resilient to chase a dream. I had to learn to never give up and keep on learning.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am best known for my folk acrylic paintings by using modern bold colors and soft shapes to bring out the spirit of nature and life. I want those who view my paintings to feel a positive emotional connection.

Possibly the painting will bring joy to your space and it will boost your mood, or the painting could bring comfort and relaxation to you, or inspire you to throw caution to the wind and travel or seek knowledge.

I absolutely love creating art for people who enjoy a life filled with passion, beauty, and harmony. It makes me feel part of this world.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I am a self-taught artist.
