Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Oxborough.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always had an interest in making videos and I originally started learning while in high school. I bought a video recorder and would make school projects and movies with my friends. I taught myself to edit with basic software on old-school early 2000s computers. After high school, I stopped making videos for almost a decade and really picked it up again in 2020 during the start of the pandemic. I found myself with a lot of free time and used that to really learn the camera basics. I would watch hours of Youtube tutorials on camera settings, filming, and editing. I bought my first real camera and started making videos in my apartment.
My first real interest was in making product videos. I would choose a local brand that I liked and would make commercials using their products in my house. I started gaining more traction this was when the brand would see the video and post it to their own social media. Other brands would take notice and reach out to me to make commercials for their products.
When I’m not making videos I’m a musician and play guitar. My video work naturally evolved into making music videos for my own bands. I would also shoot live shows for friends’ bands. People started seeing my work with music videos and would ask me to shoot for them. That has all snowballed into my main business today called Hotdish Creative.
Hotdish Creative specializes in music videos, product videos, photography, and branding. With my true love being in music I love working with musicians and creating something special with them no matter where their budget lies. I know what it’s like to be a broke musician and I don’t think that should be a barrier to getting quality work.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think one of the biggest obstacles I’ve faced was just finding my niche in content creation.
I’ve dabbled in many things- music videos, real estate, corporate interviews, photography, products, etc. I think that’s been hard in knowing which direction I truly needed to go with Hotdish Creative but in the end, if I’m having fun making it- that’s all that matters.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Today my main focus is still on music + product videos but that spills over into a lot of other things I love as well like music photography, brand content, and filming live shows. One of my next goals is to be a tour videographer/photographer. I think that would be a super fun experience. I have familiarity with touring from being a musician myself so I think it would be fun to go on the road and be on the other side of performing. So if you’re looking for a tour photographer- hit me up!
I think one thing that sets me apart is I truly know what it’s like to be a musician in today’s world and how much things cost to try to keep your passion afloat. That being said I really pride myself on offering content creation for all budgets. Social media + videos are such an important part of being creative these days. We can always work something out to provide quality content on all levels.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I think the biggest lesson I’ve learned is to just be myself and to bring who I am into my work.
Being authentic and having fun with my clients is who I am and keeps them returning to me for their content creation. Really building a relationship and making it fun and easy is the best thing I can provide through my work.
