Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaleiah Henderson.
Hi Chaleiah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Since I was little I’ve always wanted to have a voice that inspired people. I am a very creative and curious person but never took my talents seriously until recently.
I love doing community engagement work that brings communities to come together and fights for change. Along with my community engagement work, I started my Youtube channel last month. My hope for my channel is to become a creator of traveling, life journeys, art, and more.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but that’s to be expected. As someone who deals with mental health, there have been discouraging moments and times when I felt defeated. I have to remind myself that there is a purpose I am trying to achieve.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently during a fellowship for a nonprofit organization, Move for America. My role here is to bridge divides and advocate for groups that are at a disadvantage and need resources. What I’m most proud of in the work I’m doing now is stepping out of my comfort zone. Through my fellowship, I am placed at the Foundation for Essential Needs, a nonprofit in the hunger relief sector that aims to increase access to fresh and healthy food.
Hunger relief is fairly new to me, but I believe an aspect of leadership is taking risks. What sets me apart from others is my drive and motivation. Once I have a goal or idea set, I push hard to make sure it’s accomplished.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was a goofy kid that loved learning new things.
I still am that way today. I loved dancing, acting, and anything that would brighten a room. I’ve always been more of an introvert and prefer to work independently so it’s interesting that community work and being an influencer are the fields I’m in but I love helping people.
