Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Guthrie.
Hi Katie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My salon business has been open for 11 years and my salt spa for 2 years. I never thought I would have children and here I am with 3 beautiful kiddos I adopted with my ex husband almost 8 years ago. I have remarried, and still coparent with their father.
I tried many times to start a business and thankful 2014 was my chance ! I grew from 5 stylists to now 15 and an esthetician. I want to give all my stylists the best work environment there can be. They are all renters but we are like a family. My
Salt Spa is up and coming , still working on building and sharing what this little Gem in our town can do and help all our residents .
I love to help people and step out of the boundaries, I take chances and hope the best outcome in all that I do .
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Covid was a bit of a hit, I feel small business was affected from the shutdown our industry had.
Financial issues with the economy can really affect business. Cost of Product rise’s, cost of living and utilities etc increases making owners of any business stress.
Having 3 children I put them first, my son has some more needs than most, and we went through some struggles in his toddler years, now today as an 8 year old we have come a long way to get him the help he needs.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love to do hair! I have been a hairstylist for 25 years, I love working with people and making them feel good about their looks and themselves. It’s rewarding to be able to be creative with color and know what type of haircut to give someone .
The Salt Spa is a way for people to take time! Not only to benefit from Halotherapy but to slow down and relax. It is an approach to better wellness and health I feel we all wanted after Covid.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Yes I would agree you have to always take risks as a business owner. I for one am a risk taker, you either succeed or learn from your mistakes. I have done both and still to this day.
