Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Maday.
Hi Amanda, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Studio Grey in 2013, working out of my home for a couple years. Eventually I had taken over 3 bedrooms and knew it was time for an official office space! Out of college I was hired at a Minneapolis design firm that specialized in commercials, restaurant, retail and corporate design. My talents, passion, and work knowledge grew over the years there and eventually I know it was time to go out on my own. It was a scary and thrilling day when I put my two weeks’ notice in. Owning my own company was always in the plan for me, it just ended up happening earlier than I expected. but all for good reasons! I thrive in the hospitality and commercial design environments; I’m excited that Studio Grey has grown a talented team of designers who share in those same passions. Together we’ve elevated our client’s visions of what their projects could be.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running a business was my greatest challenge. I’m a designer by trade so learning how to operate a company was a great learning. When I had questions, I reached out to other business owners. I’m never afraid to ask questions when I don’t know something and enjoy getting to know the what’s and whys of those things.
We’ve been impressed with Studio Grey, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Studio Grey is an award winning design company that takes pride in our hands-on approach and boutique design process. We love creating interior design concepts that support new branding strategies with a highly-collaborative process from start to finish.
Our clients include restaurants, multi-family housing, corporate office, hospitality, and high-end residential environments. Hospitality work is our passion and we have a great understanding of the important relationship between guest facing and back of house operations. Most importantly, no matter what the space is, it must function and reflect your unique personality or brand.
