Community Highlights: Meet Ronald Berglund of Berglund Law Office LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ronald Berglund.

Hi Ronald, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have owned and operated a solo law practice in central Bloomington for the past seven years. My story is rather unusual as I started the business- essentially from scratch- at the age of 67! after I ran into difficulties being paid by my former boss for the services I rendered on his behalf. Since my career did not provide any “retirement package” for me I had two choices: Either figure out how to continue making money at my advanced age and with no clients at all; OR give up, hunker down, and live off my meager monthly Social Security income. I chose to figure out how to reinvent myself at the age of 67. It has not been easy, but it has been rewarding. I am still trucking along at the age of 75!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been MANY ups and downs- and learning experiences- along the way.

We’ve been impressed with Berglund Law Office LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My firm primarily handles estate planning, probate administration (for folks who never got around to doing an estate plan), and related real estate transactions. My firm also handles relatively basic real estate litigation and “elder law” issues (which can be shockingly complicated) and occasional family law matters.

I think what sets my firm apart from many others is that we truly CARE about our clients and we pride ourselves in actually HELPING people every single day. On many occasions we actually help people without charging them a single dime!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love Bloomington, Richfield and Edina because I grew up here, now office here, and I LOVE the diversity and energy of these suburbs- Bloomington in particular.

Pricing:

  • We do flat fee quotes for some cases. But for many matters this is not possible so we charge by the hour.
  • We believe our fees are very reasonable based on my exte nsive (47 years) experience and also the more affordable rate we charge for work done by law clerk– who has his J.D. degree but is s tudying for the bar exam so we charge a considerably lower rate for his time.
