Conversations with Quinnton Leaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quinnton Leaks.

Hi Quinnton, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I took a mission trip to Thailand for 3 months and I wanted to capture photos of my experiences there. In the midst of living there and seeing how they live the culture and capturing the photos of people, I learned the true meaning that behind every photo it tells a story through the eyes of the person capturing the memories that are to be seen vividly and forever. Coming back to my life here and looking at things very differently, especially with how much I can relate to them coming from a poor background I realized I could utilize this newfound passion and embark on what little did I know at the time would be an exciting journey im still on today. So a couple of weeks after I returned in the midst of a pandemic of COVID me and a close friend of mine (Jerome) just went out at started taking photos around the city of Minneapolis capturing life itself in its natural element. I then got asked to do portrait photography which challenged my skills in utilizing what I had at the time starting with a Canon T6 (low-end camera) to deliver a high-quality image which I have learned how to elevate from just taking a picture of a person in front of a camera. I really wanted to add depth to my skills as a photographer and get a nice portrait look and insert my own style in the way I get the results I am currently producing now.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road from starting with nothing. To losing family and friends doubting in my potential with creativity to create a stable income and stagnant clientele even lost of love with people I connected with along the way but through that I learned to fall in love with the journey full of twists and turns that leads to the destination I desire to be at which is full time photography.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do photography on the side right now with also working as a dominoes delivery driver. And what sets me apart from others is persevering and delivering professional photos utilizing what I have to deliver that photo people are looking to achieve. And I’m a very serious person when it comes to giving my efforts to providing that. I give 110% in everything I do regarding this passion utilizing and inserting my skills and passion in all the necessary places required of them.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I have learned that the future is unexpected and to be prepared when life takes us by surprise. And I also learned to live in the present moment with today because the future though bright is not promised to us.
