Daily Inspiration: Meet Anna Steidl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Steidl.

Hi Anna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in the mental health field began at the University of Minnesota–Duluth, where I initially pursued a double major in Psychology and Criminology. I originally envisioned becoming a forensic psychologist or criminal profiler, but as I moved through my studies, I realized my true passion lay in psychology and human connection. I shifted my focus, added a minor in Deaf Studies, and graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Applied Science degree.

As a first-generation college student, I was determined to pave my own path. My calling to help others was deeply influenced by my younger brother, who has developmental disabilities. Growing up, I witnessed the compassion and dedication of the professionals who supported him, which inspired my lifelong passion for helping others heal and grow.

After moving to the Twin Cities, I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Counseling and Psychological Services from St. Mary’s University in 2017. Throughout my education and early career, I worked tirelessly—often late into the night—balancing multiple jobs in the serving industry, group homes, and developmental centers while completing internships and gaining hands-on experience at St. David’s Center for Child & Family Development and Fraser.

After completing my licensure hours, I felt called to create something of my own—a practice that reflected my belief in the power of holistic healing. This vision became Free Flow Healing, where I now support children, adolescents, and adults navigating trauma, anxiety, and depression. I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and trained in several modalities, including Transforming Touch® (a body-based therapy supporting trauma and regulation), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and inner child work.

Today, I am focused on growing Free Flow Healing into a collaborative mental health and wellness center—a space where practitioners from diverse healing backgrounds can come together to support whole-person wellbeing. My vision is to bridge Eastern and Western approaches, offering somatic therapies, energy work, yoga, massage, and other integrative practices that honor the mind-body connection.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Yes and no. Throughout this journey, there have been many unexpected challenges—family struggles, personal struggles, and financial stress from student loans while trying to build a business from the ground up. Each obstacle taught me something about resilience and growth.

One of the biggest challenges has been finding a healthy work-life balance. It’s something that isn’t really taught in all the years of schooling and training, yet it’s one of the most essential parts of long-term success. I’ve learned that if you’re not taking care of your own mental health and personal needs, it becomes much harder to sustain your goals and aspirations. Learning to prioritize self-care and boundaries has been an ongoing, but deeply rewarding, part of my journey.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) currently contracting with West End Therapy Clinic in St. Louis Park, where I see a variety of clients while continuing to build my own private practice, Free Flow Healing. Through Free Flow Healing, I’m in the process of developing a holistic wellness center that integrates mind, body, and spirit approaches to healing. My goal is to create a collaborative space where therapists, healers, and body-based practitioners can come together to offer comprehensive care that supports the whole person.

In my work, I specialize in supporting children, adolescents, and adults who are navigating trauma, autism, ADHD, anxiety, depression, and emotional dysregulation. I’m trained in several modalities, including Transforming Touch®—a body-based therapy for trauma and nervous system regulation—as well as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), play therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping), mindfulness, and inner child work.

What I’m most proud of is the evolution of my work and the courage it’s taken to build my career from the ground up. I’ve learned how to blend traditional psychotherapy with somatic and holistic practices, helping clients rediscover a sense of safety, connection, and balance within themselves.

What sets me apart is my integrative approach. I don’t believe healing is one-size-fits-all. By combining evidence-based practices with nervous system and energy-based work, I help clients access deep and lasting healing. Each session is about meeting people where they are—with empathy, presence, and a belief in their innate capacity to heal.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I love most about the Twin Cities is how much there is to do and experience. From the beautiful parks, trails, rivers, and lakes to the vibrant art scene, live music, and local history—there’s truly something for everyone. I appreciate how the area blends nature and city life so seamlessly. You can spend a morning hiking or kayaking and end the day at a local concert or art show. The sense of community here is also something special; people are friendly, creative, and passionate about supporting local businesses and wellness.

What I like the least is probably the never-ending construction—it always seems to be happening somewhere! It can make commuting across the city a challenge at times, but I suppose it’s the price we pay for living in a place that’s constantly growing and improving.

Pricing:

  • 50 minute session-$180
  • 90 minute session-$260
