Life & Work with Daniel Vega of West Saint Paul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Vega.

Hi Daniel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Daniel Vega, owner of Vegas’ Travel Agency!
I was born and raised on the Lower East Side of New York and The Twin Cities of Minnesota. I am fluent in both English and Spanish.
For over 30 years I have served the traveling public as a Chauffeur and Local Tour Guide.

I have lived in Saint Paul for over 50 years. I now have seven children, one of which passed away at the age of four. I have five daughters and one son and I also share 13 grandchildren with my wife, Bridget!

As I reflect upon my experiences in life I have to say that being a husband and father has been the most difficult yet rewarding thing I had to do!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to where I am now has been a very long and difficult journey. I have had to survive being abused as a child as well as abusing drugs and alcohol throughout my entire adult life.

Although we were poor and had to depend on welfare to pay our rent, as a child I never felt like we were poor. We always had what we needed. I now have almost 20 years of sobriety!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have worked with the students, families and teachers of Achieve Language Academy for the past 13 years as the Spanish interpreter and school office clerk. Prior to this I was a Home-School Liaison for the St. Paul Public Schools for 14 years.

I’m proud of the work that educators do and how they have allowed me to participate. My level of commitment to the families is what matters most to me. I am always available to listen and support them.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Do what you enjoy! Stay in school, or keep learning!
