Life & Work with Sharmaine Russell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharmaine Russell.

Sharmaine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am often referred to as the rose that grew from the concrete. Growing up as a child on the south side of Chicago, life presented me with many challenges that formed who I am today. Growing up not knowing my mother or father could have easily led to me being a statistic but God had other plans. I was exposed to a lot of negativity but God always covered me. I had my children at a young age but God always provided for me.

I moved to Minneapolis in 1992 in search of a better life. In 2001 and in 2003 I surrendered my life to Christ. He placed several women in my path to help me heal and grow. Their love for me uncovered a deep passion that I have to help women thrive in all areas of life, physically, mentally, spiritually, financially, and emotionally. I have not always been comfortable with sharing my story but I realized the more I shared it the more it helps others and me heal.

I started sharing posts on my personal Facebook page and then created the Changing Lifestyles group for women to engage and connect. This group provides a safe space for women to seek transformational healing. Transformational healing allows us to get to the root of our feelings, emotions, problems, depression, anxiety, etc. God revealed to me to build a website so women can have access to more information from my network of resources. Prayer has been an essential part of my journey and has led me to create a prayer journal for women helping them understand the power of prayer in their most challenging times. I continue to deepen my relationship with Christ so I can authentically share and provide what women need on this journey called life. Jan 2022 my husband became the Senior Pastor of a historical black church in Minneapolis. I became the First Lady giving me the opportunity to help more women all around the world. It is my hope that God uses what I have been through to serve the purpose He intended to build His Kingdom here on Earth.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has not been easy. It continues to have its set of challenges. As women, society and our families expect so much from us. Teaching women we are unique and deserve the same love we give others is a challenge. We much unlearn years of putting ourselves last. There’s no cost for women to become a member on the website. Hiring staff to keep the content fresh and up to date is challenging.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In 2001, I surrendered my life to Christ. The road was and is not smooth, but I strive daily to do thus said the Lord. I think women are drawn to me because I’m transparent, genuine, and show an abundance of empathy and compassion. I go out of my way to meet women where they are without judgment. I’m proud that God has chosen me to help women to heal from childhood and current pain.
