Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan And Cheri Gieski.
Hi Dan and Cheri, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
We purchased this 1924 English Tudor from the Catholic diocese in 2019 with the hope of preserving its history and making it, not only our home, but a unique get-away on the Mississippi river.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
We bought the house “as is” and it has needed many different fixes, such as a new slate roof, new fireplace, stucco repair, plumbing, restoring stairs to the river, etc. It has been a labor of love. Without income from the B & B, we would be unable to afford the many costs associated with restoring this historic beauty.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
This home was originally built by the Brower family in 1924. We love sharing the story of Jacob Brower and his connection to the area.
We have three private interior rooms (1 family suite with king size bed and bunk beds, 2 rooms with queen size beds) and shared common areas, including a three session porch with cypress beams and stunning views of the river. Many of our guests enjoy using the free paddle boat, canoe, kayaks, and paddle boards. The fishing from our dock has boasted plenty of small mouth bass.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
We are in process with zoning to add intimate backyard weddings (50 people or less). We get alot of requests for this, and we want to deliver a smaller venue and reasonable prices for those who don’t need a full-service event.
