Meet Daryl Lanz of Chapter 2 Books

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daryl Lanz.

Hi Daryl, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved books and bookstores, especially used bookstores. In 2012, after a decade of working in retail (music business), and another 15 years of teaching high school, I decided to take the plunge and start my own business and opened Chapter 2 Books. Thirteen years later and it’s still going, stronger than ever.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started, I was in a place where I didn’t really need to make money. That helped a lot to get things off the ground. A few years later, money became a major issue, and I ended up working a part-time job, in addition to running the store. As business improved, I was eventually able to make the store my sole focus, and have managed to make a living out of it.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a traditional used bookstore, carrying books in all genres, paperbacks, hardcovers, kids books, etc. We also have a large selection of back issue comic books, my personal interest (some might say obsession). We also sell music, used LPs and CDs. We pay cash for all of the above, or offer in-store credit.

What matters most to you?
Customer service is a big focus of what I do. I also feel like I’m contributing very positively to my community.
