Meet Jon and Sne Erickson of Angry Inch Brewing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon and Sne Erickson.

Hi Jon and Sne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Jon: I started as many of us did, home brewing in my garage. What started out as a hobby quickly turned into a passion. Whether I was brewing classic styles, pushing the limits on new flavors, or creating new recipes, I found a harmonious intertwinement of my scientific and mechanical experiences. What started out as low key “tasting parties” quickly evolved into full scale “events” that would even get posted onto social media to the public. I still remember the day I received a phone call from the Alcohol & Gambling Enforcement division of the Department of Public Safety querying “So we see you are hosting tasting parties at your house…?” I invited them down to the next party, but they never showed up. Once I had made it public that I was seriously looking for a location to open a brewery, I was asked to sponsor a golf tournament fundraiser for the Minnesota Special Olympics Team where I met those who would eventually become our landlords in Downtown Lakeville.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Jon: Being first at anything always draws a challenge. We were the first brewery to open in Dakota County and the first brewery to open in a municipal liquor city. To make opening in Lakeville even more challenging, we had a brewpub start their buildout shortly after we did, and the City Inspectors had a difficult time understanding the differences between a production brewery with taproom, and a brewpub. There was a lot of education involved on many fronts. COVID obviously tossed a giant wrench in everyone’s plans, but we pivoted and adapted as best we could.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Sne: Unintenionally we became known for our Belgian inspired beers, especially the big, bold, and boozy ones. That’s alright with us. Our” brewlosophy” is “angry beer for happy people” and we strive to deliver with every new recipe.

I’m most proud of the welcoming, safe, and encouraging environment that we have been able to create for our patrons. The “we” of course being our community. They love the taproom, it’s their home away from home, they have their “beer family” as they call it. Best of all they love new commers and quickly take them into the fold.

How do you think about happiness?
Sne: Dogs. Animals in general, but mostly dogs. They are just geniune and generally kind, it’s nice to set the tone with a friendly face. Our patio is relatively small but it’s one of the best places to visit as a dog. We call them our VIP’s, (very important puppers.) It’s not uncommon for the dog to get greeted, provided with water and treats before the humans. The owners never mind, they are important to them and love to see them get spoiled by someone else.
