Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylee Bond.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Kaylee went to school for therapy in 2017 and when it came time for her internship she was surprised to find that mental health therapy internships were often unpaid or severely under paid. Kaylee did her internship at a community mental health clinic and rose to the Board of Directors over 5 years. Kaylee found that companies were often making a lot of money and had the ability to pay a living wage and were just choosing not to.
In 2023 Kaylee decided to start a solo private practice out of an old 1910 barbershop on central ave in NE. Over the next 6 months, Kaylee kept hearing from her friends in the therapy world of different companies asking for unreasonable case loads, changing and lowering pay, or laying off staff. Kaylee opened the doors of Interna Mental Health and Wellness as a group practice in January of 2023 and by the end of January had 10 thearpists make the jump over.
Over the next 2 years, the direction of Interna would be decided by the people who do the work. We developed a voting structure for collective decision making, added profit sharing, and made a commitment to helping the community through community meals and resource drives.
Interna is now a safe space for the queers, creatives, and neurodivergents of the therapy world and for those looking for therapy. In September of 2025, Interna debuted a new 8,800 sq ft facility boasting a play room, sensory room with swings, virtual reality therapy, and a somatic movement space. This space is now used for community events, group therapy, and innovative therapy techniques.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Interna has made the way with major challenges including working with insurance companies who do whatever they can to not pay claims or take back money they previously paid out. Interna’s goal is to find a model that works outside of insurance to continue to reduce barriers for those seeking therapy.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Interna Mental Health and Wellness?
