Today we’d like to introduce you to Krista Ungerecht.
Hi Krista, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I began photography 13 years ago, when my daughter was born. At the time, I was unable to afford a professional photographer. Instead, I taught myself photography and began taking pictures of her myself. I spend countless hours learning new techniques and growing little by little. I then started offering my services to friends and family, and Dream Capture Photography was born. When I started my business, I had a vision to keep my services reasonably priced, so that more families can choose to have beautiful keepsakes. I also enjoy being able to giveaway and donate a few free sessions every year. I believe that everyone should be able to have memories captured in photographs, to preserve a little sliver of time for years to come.
I have a studio inside my home in Harris, MN. I am also enjoy visiting new and exciting locations and creating something unique. My favorite photo sessions to shoot are our once a year “Unicorn Sessions.” I enjoy putting together magical themes for children, that they will remember and keep talking about. Superheroes, wizards, mermaids, and unicorns are just some of the magical settings I have created for kids. It’s always fun to see their personality and imagination shine. In the last 13 years, I have covered a variety of sessions ranging from newborn babies to weddings; and from boudoir to Christmas. There really isn’t much that I haven’t done, and I love every minute of it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. There has been a lot of trial and error, and a lot to learn. In 2014 I moved from Utah to Minnesota, and there was a period of time that I didn’t do much photography. I didn’t know the area well. In 2017 we turned our basement in my studio, and that opened up new doors.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in many types of photography, but mostly children and family portraits. Each holiday I create a fun setting for kids and family to have their photos taken. We have an old pickup truck in the yard that we love to decorate different for each session.
I love to shoot boudoir photography. I enjoy working with women and capturing their true beauty. It is always so satisfying to hear what they think of their photos, and to help them build their self esteem. Boudoir is very empowering.
There are many choices when it comes to photography, but I believe that my outgoing personality and way I connect with people sets me apart. Most of my clients have founds me based on “word of mouth”, and many choose to come back year after year. It’s fun to watch their families grow.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
There have been many risks with starting my own business. There is a lot that goes into a photo session to prepare for it, and there is a lot of work after the session to edit and deliver the photos. There is more involved in photography that many people see. To some, it looks like just picking up a nice camera and taking pictures, but there is more to it.
