Meet Madelyn Seemann

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madelyn Seemann.

Hi Madelyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started photography because I was jealous of people whose careers it was to run around fields with couples, capturing love all day. But instead of capturing love, I ended up really being passionate about capturing individuality. For Seniors, I created a process that pulled out exactly what makes them unique – we grab a coffee, plan the session, and get to know each other. In the days before their session, I take my steps to prepare for it by getting inspired. I sit down and make an inspiration board chalked full of characteristics and details that stuck out to me. This gets me in the right mindset to capture each senior and keeps their individuality at the forefront!

To me, the people are the art. Each session has a purpose – its own vibe & feel. It takes planning, energy, and inspiration. It reveals to the world who they are, their quirks, energy, style, and attitude.

I recently started working with brands as well and I have been loving pulling a similar meaning out of each brand.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I am also a teacher, so juggling both have been crazy, but I thrive off of chaos. It has taken a lot of energy and effort, but I have loved this double career!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a joyful, energetic photographer known for working with pops of color, pulling out the joy in photos, and cultivating contagious confidence. I emphasize being present at the moment, authenticity, and truly uplifting one another.

I pride myself in uplifting my clients’ individuality and that includes their skin tone – I edit my clients’ skin tone to properly uplift their features and emphasize who they are.

My niche is in Seniors and Brands – I love pulling the art of people and products. I’m excited to take a year off of teaching and really take my business full time – I’ll be traveling Europe for 6 months so I’m looking for brands to partner with as I adventure!

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
COVID definitely taught me to always be ready for anything, lean into my individuality, and MAKE THE JUMP. You never know what will come up, so if you have an opportunity, TAKE IT!
