Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Rollin.
Hi Daniela, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started with photography back in 2015; very slow and pretty much for free. I was self-taught, so the learning process was slow during my time off work, nights, and evenings. After my first baby was born in 2016, I started charging for small sessions, engagement shoots, family, etc. My first wedding was free; from then on, I invested time and money in education and equipment. While perfecting my photography skills, I work full-time as a corporate HR Manager. I quit my full-time job to become a full-time photographer in November 2019 as my second born was getting close to arriving earth-side. Since then, my business has bloomed, and I am here today with much love and patience.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a smooth road?
Photography Is never a smooth path. COVID hit everyone hard, and from December 2019-July 2020, I paused my whole season. 2021 was a bit hectic and was better. I got an incoming rush of weddings and ended my season with 30+ weddings. My biggest struggle was to learn to delegate, I have been very protective of my business, and it was hard for me to ask for help. Thankfully, I have lots of support now, help with my children, editing, culling, etc.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a wedding and lifestyle photographer. I specialize in weddings and families (couples, newborns); I am known for my romantic style, contrasting tones, and fun images. I am very proud of being able to make more than I used to make at my corporate job. I’m proud of having been able to open a studio and to have met all the wonderful people I have worked with along the way. My style and background are what sets me apart from others. My work is different from the famous and overuse editing you find. I love what I do, reflecting in my work and my long-lasting relationship with my clients.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in Peru, South America. I was a dancer, an outspoken leader, and loved math, drawing, and writing. That makes sense, right? Lol, I loved science and learning how things worked. I started working in customer service when I was 16 and enjoyed it. After graduating high school, I moved to the US and got accepted into the university of Wisconsin, Eau Claire- where I met my husband. We moved to MN after college graduation and started full-time corporate jobs. I love working with clients worldwide; being bilingual has helped me connect with Spanish-speaking clients and their families.
