Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Hoehne.
Hi Diane, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started YerADogToo Designs back in the 1990s at the advent of the internet and started out building websites using HTML from scratch. I did this for a few years, but then set it aside for a few years.
I continued to dabble in website design using off-the-shelf tools like Dreamweaver and FrontPage, or Shutterfly which provided structured pages and handled all the technical support behind the scenes. I started up website work again around 2012, doing sites for local social clubs and various charity events.
In 2017, I decided to make YerADogToo Designs an official company. In addition to website development, I do event and promotion photography, video, graphic design, and custom art. And in 2019, I became a Film Production Designer and have won several Production Design Awards for the short films I’ve worked on.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been a relatively smooth road, as I carefully pick the projects and clients I work with. The struggles are making sure I have time to keep up with the technology.
Also, the challenge is knowing how to work with your clients to understand their needs and keep them from making their sites overcomplicated. I like to have my clients in the end be self-sufficient.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My main offering is website design and development. I like to work with small businesses to help launch or relaunch their websites and social media.
I also like to work with creatives, artists, actors, authors, and musicians to showcase their talents. I also have worked with small charity organizations and well as social/sports clubs to manage their websites and social media presence. As part of the website business, I also offer graphic design for logos and will do photo shoots for products, services, and events.
What I am most proud of is I have played some part in the successful launch of a new business, or being able to promote an artist or musician. Get the word out about the work they do, when they are performing, and being able to showcase their talents.
What sets me apart is I design to keep it simple! Website content management is key. Sites can quickly become overcrowded and stale. I provide ideas and techniques to keep sites simple and manageable. Keep the content fresh and not overwhelm the client with website management tasks.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a kid, I was always drawing, painting, and doing artistic projects. I can remember loving costumes and creating props for backyard fun or Halloween.
At 13, I got into my first computer and that is what led me to development of websites. I was an odd kid that used both sides of my brain – left and right – logical and artistic! As my company tag line says Right Brain…Left Brain… Connecting the Dots!
