Rising Stars: Meet Kid Swami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kid Swami.

Hi Kid, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I always saw my cousins do music everyone was a musician/singer. I was always the 4th/5th best singer so I wanted to be different so I decided to become a rapper. Later in life I found my voice (and with the help of autotune) to shape my sound. But I was always influenced by my older cousins and asian YouTubers (Timothy Delaghetto, Aj Rafael, etc).

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like it’s never been a smooth road. Being an Asian artist in a predominantly black genre you get the looks/doubters. But I’ve always used it to my advantage. They always want to see/hear what I got and I know what I speak comes from the heart and I’m not trying to be someone I’m not so my story comes off very genuine and real and I’ve gained respect and love from simply being myself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I rap and sing. I write all my own songs and speak on all life experiences and where I want to be and envision myself in the future. I’m most proud of my stage presence and my ability to rock the crowd. It’s like second nature. Whether it’s in the studio or on stage I can kill it and make people believe what I’m saying.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Believe in yourself. Don’t try to be someone you’re not. Do it because you love it. Don’t do it for money or fame. I’ve seen people come and go have a few hot songs and then disappear once the numbers ain’t as high as they used to be. In my 10+ years, I’ve seen plenty of people come and go. My songs have hit millions and some of my songs have hit only 10k views. But I keep going because I genuinely love this. and if it’s meant for me it’s gonna happen. If not I still put out amazing music I’m proud of. I love this and I don’t know who I am without it. Anyone doing this should feel the same way.
