Richard, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
From what began as a one time benefit concert for Bloomington Early Childhood Family Education, The Teddy Bear Band has become Minnesota’s most successful Children’s Music Group. Teddy Bear Band is dedicated to connecting with kids “where they live” through “developmentally appropriate” music, fun and participation, spontaneously adjusting to audience ages and stages. With over 10,000 shows /early childhood conference keynotes and presentations.
2025 is TBB’s 40th Anniversary of setting kids up for success as young fans embrace TBB’s slogan: “YOU’RE IN THE SHOW!”
We’re Honored!
TBB has received many awards from MN Music Academy, MN Parent Magazine, Proclamations from the State of MN, recognition from nationally respected early childhood experts, and a MN MUSIC Hall of Fame induction. HOWEVER, the most important HONOR is when original TED HEADS bring THEIR CHILDREN!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
In general. just being in the music business.. TBB’s early success garnered attention from A&M Records & others. Although these time consuming experiences didn’t work out, it was part of our journey. Other music acts we know that got closer or achieved national success say TBB is fortunate to have retained control of it’s name & direction, while continuing to be a viable music group.for over 40 years.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Teddy Bear Band started in Ron Gustafson’s Early Childhood Family Education program in Bloomington MN.. Therefore the key to success is connecting with children lyrically & involving them in all of our songs. (TBB’s slogan is “You’re in the Show”) We also communicate in ways that entertains & values them during the shows..
What matters most to you?
That Teddy Bear Band continues to perform as long as possible & we continue to be appreciated by families for providing a show the whole family can enjoy & emulate at home.
