Alicia Magner’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We recently had the chance to connect with Alicia Magner and have shared our conversation below.

Alicia, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Clients and conversations with clients after our session is done. I think I could talk to a wall for hours. I just love small talk.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Alicia Magner. I started photography as a hobby when my husband was getting deployed 18 years ago. I did free sessions for years because I wanted to practice and learn more about photography. Even to this day, I have so much to learn. I love traveling for sessions, capturing once in a lifetime moments and people in general. I am working on balancing messages/emails/texts/phone calls. I need a central location for everything.

I am a mother of 2, I have 6 fur babies that I love & coffee is the key to life! My Golden Retriever, Garth, is my best friend.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My sister, hands down. I practiced taking photos on my daughter for the 18 months that my husband was deployed and she was so proud of me the day I created my photography page. She saw something within my skills that I did not have the confidence to show at the time. I am so thankful for her.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t be too hard on yourself. You learn as you grow and nothing is going to be an immediate answer all the time.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
I do not pay attention to fads at all. I don’t follow any photographers in my area, not because I don’t love their work, but because I felt the pressure from my clients to so similar things to them. I want to do my own thing.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
My weird and crazy personality. I have lifelong clients that I will never retire for. I am never going back into the corporate world!
